The province of Malaga, with its more than one hundred towns and cities, has a large number of golf courses. Specifically, there are more than fifty courses available for playing golf all year round. In this post we are not going to reveal the best golf courses in Malaga at the provincial level, but we will focus on the best in the city itself and its surroundings.

We also gave you information about the famous "Golf Valley" between Nueva Andalucía (Marbella) and part of the municipality of Benahavís. And, of course, we did a post about the fabulous golf courses located around the prestigious residential development La Zagaleta. We cannot fail to mention the fabulous golf courses in the area of the exclusive resort of Sotogrande on the Costa del Sol either.
But, on this occasion, we would like to focus on Malaga only. A city that is in fashion and has very remarkable cultural, gastronomic, luxury and sporting offers. The latter include a quality golf offer with fascinating courses.
Why is Malaga an ideal place to play golf?
If you know anything about Malaga's climate, you will understand that it allows for almost 300 outings on the course, thanks to its average number of sunny days per year.
Also, since there is a great love of outdoor activities in the Mediterranean, golf has fitted in perfectly on the Costa del Sol. Not only among locals, but also among foreign nationals who choose to reside on the Malaga coast, be they permanent, holiday or intermittent residents. In fact, many wealthy investors who are interested in luxury homes on the Costa del Sol are already looking for a frontline golf property. There are even those who want their villa or appartment within a residential development with a golf course of its own.
Another great advantage of playing golf in Malaga is that, since there is a great interest in the game, the courses are very well maintained. At the same time, the calendar of tournaments at the different levels is very broad and so there is a perpetual movement around golf all year round.
Of course, if you decide to go a step further and join a golf club on the Costa del Sol, you will find that the ambience is superb and select. Some of the clubs are rated among the most exclusive in Europe.
Almost one hundred years of Golf in Malaga
Soon it will be one hundred years since the arrival of golf in Malaga. In 1926, the Real Club de Campo de Málaga (R.C.C.M) was created, whose headquarters are inside the Parador Málaga Golf. This was the first club in Malaga and in Andalusia. It is still operating and is located approximately ten kilometres from the centre of the city, very close to the airport. Without doubt, it is a privileged place to play golf because of its history and its beautiful natural surroundings.
Our selection of the best golf courses in Malaga
Real Club de Golf de El Candado
At the top of our list is the 9-hole El Candado Golf Club in the eastern part of Malaga. It is another of the pioneers of this sport on the Costa del Sol, located in a small valley surrounded by beautiful vegetation. According to its managers, it is not a difficult course, but it does have some areas that are more complicated due to the unevenness of the terrain. Focused on the Mediterranean, the club also offers other sports activities, such as paddle tennis and sailing.
At the end of the eighties, a group of friends and golf enthusiasts in Malaga decided to build a private golf club on land to the north of the Malaga airport. There was already an old farmhouse there, which was ideally suited to accommodate the clubhouse. The project was extended with Finnish capital and it was remodelled in 2007. It is a flat, 18-hole, Par 72 course. It is still open to new members, but its facilities can be used without membership in the mornings on weekdays.
